Heading towards the centre of the island, you cannot miss the beautiful fishing port of Portree , the island's capital. Portree has numerous shops, pubs, restaurants and things to do. The excellent Aros Experience, just south of Portree is home to exhibitions, art galleries, cinema, theatre and music..

If you fancy hiring a bike for the day to tour the area, Skye Bike Hire can be found on the campsite near Uig pier. For local boat trips, Seamaid Marine in Earlish will arrange fishing or achaelogical trips.
Why not take a day trip from Uig pier to the Outer Hebrides with its spectacular white sandy beaches. Ferries leave frequently to Harris and North Uist.
Whilst waiting for the ferry, a visit to the Uig Pottery is a must and stock up on locally brewed ale at the Isle of Skye Brewery, both of which are situated right next to the pier.
There are several places to eat in Uig. The Uig Hotel with its Folly restaurant is excellent, with great views over the bay. For pub meals there are popular local pubs The Ferry Inn and the Pub at the Pier.

Just north of Uig in Kilmuir is the Skye Museum of Island Life. Find out about the fascinating life of the island in bygone times. Flora McDonald is also laid to rest nearby.

Travelling south from Uig, you will reach Skeabost. For pony treks, visit the Skye Horse Riding Centre. For a special lunch or dinner, the famous Skeabost Country House Hotel is definitely worth a visit.

Travelling north west from Skeabost is the Waternish Peninsula , a lovely, peaceful area, home to the oldest inn on Skye.. There is also a lovely seafood restaurant next door in a picture postcard setting. There are numerous arts and craft shops in the area too.

Further west is Dunvegan with its famous castle and gardens, home of the Clan McLeod. You can also take a boat trip from the castle to the seal colonies.

In Glendale , a short journey further west, is the Toy Museum and the Colbost Croft Museum . Colbost is also home to the world famous Three Chimneys Restaurant, recently voted one of the top 50 restaurants in the world. Keep heading west and you will reach the spectacular sea cliffs of Waterstein point, the most westerly point on Skye. On the way, why not drop in to Skye Silver for traditional and contemporary Scottish jewellery.

South of Portree to Sligachan is the most spectacular mountain range in Britain , the Cuillins. Beautiful to view from the surrounding glens and a serious challenge to the experienced walker or climber. For whisky lovers, head west from Sligachan to the famous Talisker distillery, beautifully situated on the edge of Loch Harport.

Heading south from Sligachan is Sconser, home of the Isle of Skye golf club where visitors are welcome. You can also catch the ferry from Sconser to the tiny island of Raasay , which makes a pleasant day out.

Just south of Sconser is Broadford, a bustling village with several shops and restaurants. Skye Serpentarium is home to over 500 rescued reptiles and amphibians and is worth seeing. Also in Broadford you will find Skye Jewellery, manufacturers of both traditional and contemporary Scottish designs. From Broadford you can take either a high speed boat trip or a more leisurely glass bottom boat trip to various remote spots on both Skye and the mainland. For a fantastic boat trip to one of the most beautiful and isolated lochs, surrounded by the Cuillin mountains, head west from Broadford to Elgol where you will find Bella Jane Boat Trips.

Towards the Skye Bridge is the Sleat Peninsular. Why not visit Armadale Castle with its beautiful gardens and the Clan Donald Visitor Centre. From Armadale, you can take a Seafari, a high speed rigid inflatable boat (RIB) taking you out to sea with the possibility of seeing whales.
